Once upon a time, in the dim past of presumptuous teenage youth fellowship days at Blantyre, we thought we knew it all, while at the same time assuming that our elders in the faith “knew nothing”

( I suppose it was like the 15 year old who complained that his parents knew so little, but by the time he was 16 he was amazed just how much they had learned in that short time!!!)

Anyway, as teenagers, fired up for evangelism, we decided that the church needed a newsletter to communicate to both  members and to the community (perhaps some 10,000 homes.!!!!)

Quizzed by our more wise Christians about all the technical details like who would edit, costs, how to print etc we marched boldly forward

The newsletter, which in our dreams, would bear the title of ”Impact” would really confront others to consider the Lord’s challenges.

The first editorial was called;-“What’s in a name “

The magazine lasted the inglorious fame of one edition!!!!

It made no impact whatsoever (although it taught us an important lesson)

So, after some 60 years of scriptural research, after countless sermons, after years of joy and heart-break, after endless prayer “What’s in a name?”, especially the precious name of Jesus.

Today we start another new theme ”Bible wonders” ;-              our first study being the prophetic words of Isaiah                              “HIS NAME IS WONDERFUL!!!!

As part of the worship we will sing the lovely 296 M.P. hymn, I stand amazed in the presence, followed by the thrilling chorus;- How marvellous, how wonderful is my Saviour’s love for me.

No matter where you find yourself, no matter whether the days contain joyful blessings or trying circumstances, no matter the hurt the pain, the grief, the battles against sin, the victories won in Jesus name;- always give thanks for the ONE whose name , presence and love is summed up as WONDERFUL.

(Rev W. Izett)
