Do you remember getting one as a birthday present? Basically a 6” Cardboard tube. Do you remember the remarks to your parents “Well, is that it? and , by the way, what exactly is it? “Don’t you know? That’s a kaleidoscope. (A far cry from I-Pads/ Pads, computers, phones.) Look inside the tube, shake it and see what happens.

Gasps of wonder from the birthday child. A wondrous display of intermingled, interchangeable, enthralling, gorgeous, coloured patterns - never quiet two the same.

Today our study in the theme Biblical Wonders we consider the Wondrous Love of Jesus.
Ask a thousand Christians what they understand by the term…”the Love of God” and obviously many will hone in immediately on the atoning death of Jesus for sinners like us. (That will form a main plank in today’s sermon). But, thereafter we are very likely to hear of a myriad of different patterns of God’s love especial to each individual.

Various people will testify to God’s love in wonderful healing, of being restored from being a back-slider, to a close walk with God again. Some, in hard times of poverty will speak of a surprise food or monetary gift at the exact time of need.

What of missing a particular plane or bus, only to find later what a serious predicament you might have landed in, had your time table not been interrupted?

What about singing a particular long-forgotten hymn from teen days, bringing back memories of your conversion to the Lord?

However you are touched by the Love of God today, sum it up in the great hymn:

O the Love that drew salvation’s plan
O the grace that brought it down to man
O the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary.
Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary

Sit quiet for a few minutes and be thankful for how God’s love has touched YOU.
