There was a very sad news item reported in the media last week.
A young mother had taken a 2 year old child on a visit to an animal farm.
On the way home she must have felt unwell and stopped the car. She died soon afterwards.
The news-heading said that her son had cuddled her dead body for 24 hours.
Obviously the child sought some communication;- wanted some response;- longed for some warm comfort.
Was his little heart crying out to hear his mother’s voice?
Did he want to say how much he had enjoyed their last time together?
Sadly here was to be nothing. Stony cold silence!!!!
In the details of the Easter story recorded in Matthew 28 v 1, the
Word says ”the women went out to look at the tomb.”
They wanted some comfort, some consolation, some warm response. They waited to hear his pleasure for that last time they were in each others’ company.
Nothing.!!!!! Silence!!!!! Painful agony and hurt piled on hurt
They could scarcely muster enough enthusiasm to use the body spices which they had brought as a love offering.
the women went out to look at the tomb.”
But the God of all grace, of all mercy, of all compassion had planned ahead.
The stone, over which they had agonised about its removal, was already moved from its anchorage.
The tomb had taken on a new appearance. Angels hovered in the vicinity. A few loin- cloths hinted at something explosive happening. Words of comfort and cheer were in soft, unbelievable tones.
“You seek Jesus. He is not here. He is risen, as He promised.”
More was to follow.
Not only the promise, but also the PRESENCE.
Soon afterwards, the weel-kent voice, the tender comfort, the re-assurance that all was well.
the women went out to look at the tomb.
They stayed to meet the Risen Christ.
