Every Friday night, until his death in 1973, in gratitude, an old man visited a broken pier on the coast of Florida. From a large bucket of shrimps, he fed the seagulls. Many years before that, in October 1942, Captain Eddy Rickenbacker flew a B-17, to deliver an important message to General McArthur.
An unexpected detour led to loss of radio contact. Low fuels, meant ditching the plane in the ocean. For a month Eddie and his crew were at the mercy of storm and starvation.
It would take a miracle to save them - and a miracle did just that!!!!
Prayers were offered to God, for deliverance.
Soon afterwards, a seagull landed on the Captain’s head, which, if caught, offered the potential of a modicum of food. The bird was caught, and the morsel of food was shared round. The intestines were used as bait to catch fish. The survivors were sustained and their hopes renewed, because a lone seagull, uncharacteristically hundreds of miles off land, offered itself as a sacrifice.
We know that Captain Eddie and his crew appreciated deliverance by the grace of God, and never forgot to thank God. He did so, by feeding seagulls with shrimps, from an old pier, every Friday, until he died in 1973. … He did that, to remember in gratitude, that one, which, on a day long past, gave itself without a struggle, like manna in the wilderness.

“The Old Man and the Gulls" from Paul Harvey’s The Rest of the Story by Paul Aurandt, 1977, quoted in Heaven Bound Living, Knofel Stanton, Standard, 1989, pp. 79-80.

We know of ANOTHER, who gave His life a ransom to deliver us from the power of sin. for sin.…

(Rev W Izett)
